GUESTS AT HOME

Dear Visitor,

This is an invitation to expand the wonderful experiences and enjoyments South African public amenities have to offer, and be a Guest at a Private Home of a South African Family to enjoy the evening meal together with such family!

You may have heard about the “Rainbow Nation” and maybe asked yourself the significance of this fitting epitaph given to South Africa by Archbishop Emeritus Tutu?

And the answer lies in the commingling of the multitude of her diverse cultures all working together in a “Harmonious Rainbow Society”.

There are the Khoisan / San people, partly descending from the pastoral, so called, “Hottentots” communities in the Cape, and partly indigenous nomads -

The Cape Malay, who came to Africa as servants to their original Dutch masters from Batavia (today’s far eastern countries of Indonesia and Malaysia)

The White Communities, made up in large proportions of Dutch, French (Huguenot), English and German settlers -

The Black Communities, made up of 9 different tribes with 4 distinctly different language origins (Nguni, Sotho, Venda, Tsonga) -

The Coloured Community, being of mixed race origin -

The Indian Communities, with their Hindu, Muslim and Tamil backgrounds -

And last, not least, a fair proportion of Chinese.

And they all have family history to relate, which in the least is fascinating, if not captivating to the point of heartfelt emotion, irrespective of the enjoyment of the delicacies of their distinctly separate cuisines.

An evening in the presence of one of our naturally friendly and hospitable families is, no doubt, an enrichment and enlightenment for understanding of the diversity of the Human Spirit.

Groups consist of a minimum of four and a maximum of 10 people. The transport from and to your hotel, the evening meal and your first drink are included in the price.

Guests are collected from their hotels or meeting point between 17h00 and 18h00 for arrival at the host venue by about 19h00.

DESIGNER TOURS

Guests At Home arrange „Designer Tours“ on behalf of the relevant suppliers or service providers and for her own account. In this way Guests At Home concentrate on the particular interests of the clients and procures the most favourable offers from amongst the established Tour- and Event Operators. It makes no difference if the client prefers to organise flight, accommodation and mobility arrangements himself and only wants to utilise that particular special interest offer, or prefers to have the full trip covered by a complete package with the services of a qualified and experienced tour guide.

Southern Africa, with its bounty of natural attractions, offers a wide variety of activities and special interest options, apart from the usual and established travel routes covering the major game and nature highlights. Starting at Bazaruto in Mozambique, down south the Indian Ocean coastline all the way to Cape Town, there are numerous opportunities for ocean specific activities – such as Yachting, Deep-Sea Fishing, Whale Watching, Scuba Diving, or, for that particular nerve tingling thrill, a descent to the hunting grounds of the Great White Shark in a diving cage.

Sports enthusiasts will find many similarly minded amongst South Africans and available facilities match the enthusiasm. South Africa’s Golf Courses are internationally renowned. There are in excess of 300 registered Hiking Trails and Walks traversing many different ecosystems and topographies with Mountain Trails and –Biking not even being included in that number. The multitude of impressions of nature’s own artwork is awe inspiring. And adding to this, one can, of course, also attach a rope to one’s legs and jump off a bridge to look at the sights upside down – Bungee Jumping.  Or do a hop and skip in a rubber duck down a raging mountain stream – Wild Water Rafting. Lesotho’s mountain scenery is a splendid backdrop for a great many adventure sports on the ground and in the air – Glider Flights.

The untouched Africa, however, is located at such spots where human beings find it too difficult to survive for any length of time without particular supporting measures. Such locations are usually characterised by a lack of surface water. Namibia’s coastal areas are notorious in that respect. A trip into such deserts – only possible with special permits – may also be considered a voyage to the gate of a new and unknown world as may exist in the depth of the endless universe. However, preferring to stay in touch with civilisation, the western part of South Africa and the Kalahari Desert offer wide open spaces and a sensual experience derived from a keen beauty exerting a meta-physical influence on one’s inner resonance.

Safaris to the Okavango Swamps or the Zambezi Valley usually start off from South Africa and link up with expert guides at the destination who will introduce the visitors to the real realm of nature. Because, only who enters nature on foot will experience the true effect of nature’s rules and regulations in contact with what surrounds them. And newcomers quickly take cognizance of these ancient facts. A sense of living which our early forebears had to contend with on a daily basis; for better or worse. Not being so nimble on foot, there is still the option of a 4 x 4 Safari to such parts inaccessible to ordinary vehicles.

This is only a brief introduction to the Extra-Ordinary of Southern Africa. You want to learn more about a particular subject or activity? Why not contact us and find out about what we know about it or if we are able to help.

Thank you for your interest!
